The Story Behind the Lens

I took my first photo that mattered when I was a teenager. My little cousin, maybe two or three years old, a headshot, standing next to a fence. In the corner, a towel with a small blue devil face. He had the most innocent expression. It was a story with no words. I saw it, I framed it, I took the shot. He's in his thirties now and still posts that image. His family has cherished it for decades.

That's when I knew.

I've been seeing the world through a lens since I was seven. Shooting weddings at seventeen. Working in a photo lab, studying photography in Düsseldorf, running my own studio in Germany for nearly two decades. Photography has been the constant thread through every chapter of my life.

But I'll be honest with you. There was a stretch when I put the camera down. I thought maybe just being present was enough. Just living the moments instead of capturing them. I tried that for about ten years. It was worth the experience. 

Then my son got sick. And everything shifted. I realized that the

human brain can only hold so much. Photos give us back what time tries to take. They carry us home to the moments we can't afford to forget. That's when I understood, really understood, why this work matters.

I photograph people with one thing driving everything I do: I want to show you what I see when I look at you. I want to show you in your true light.

I'm not looking for the perfect pose. I'm looking for the real you. The lines. The emotion. The unguarded moment when you forget the camera is there. I've had women tell me they've never liked a photo of themselves until they saw mine. That's not about technical skill. That's about making someone feel safe enough to just be.

When you leave a shoot with me, I want you to feel like you just spent an afternoon with a friend. Relaxed. Seen. A little surprised by how good it felt.

Light is my obsession. I see it before I pick up the camera. I know what to do with it before I even think about it. For commercial clients, that means your product looks exactly the way it should. For people, it means something different entirely. It means you get to see your own light reflected back at you.
