My Story
I knew I wanted to be a photographer when I was seven years old.
I couldn't have explained why back then. I looked at life through a lens, and that feeling has never left.
I studied photography in Germany, learning the language of light and the art of engaging with people as they truly are.
Everywhere I go, I'm still looking through a lens, even when I don't have a camera in my hands. I notice people. The way someone's face changes when they're truly proud of something. The uniqueness in the way somebody moves through the world.
I love people and I love showing them their amazingness. That's the truth underneath all of this. And photography has always just been the way I get to prove it, one image at a time.
Why Hockey
In 2021, my son Adrian and I started going to Hampden Academy hockey games together. He began writing articles about the team, just a kid with a notebook who loved the game.
The next season, Adrian was diagnosed with cancer, and the hockey team was the first to show up with support. What we didn't expect was that the team became our family and we became addicted to high school hockey. Hockey gave us somewhere to put our attention that wasn't chemo or radiation. It gave us the next game to look forward to instead of the next treatment to get through. That's when we learned what the hockey world really is. It shows up for you.
My son is healthy now. He's learning to play hockey himself, and he's part of Unified Hockey of Maine, a program that gave him a place on the ice when he needed one most. We are endlessly grateful for what that program has done for our family, and The Legacy Project is part of how we give back.
Along the way, I've come to understand something else, too. Every family that has driven their kid to 6 a.m. practices, sat through a hundred cold rinks, and built their whole life around a hockey season knows this feeling: they never want it to end. The Legacy Project exists so it doesn't have to. It's a way to hold onto that chapter, so the memories are still there long after the final whistle of the last senior game.
